Subway To Close 500 Stores Across America - blogged by @worldwidekeege ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Subway feels they need to make some adjustments to the cosmetic appeal of their restaurants, and that requires them to close some of their locations. According to Bloomberg News, Subway announced that they are planning to close 500 of their 26,000 locations this year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The sandwich connoisseur is the largest quick-service chain in the U.S., towering above McDonald’s mere 14,000 restaurants.  Though they outnumber in locations, the restaurant is feeling the heat from a heightened sandwich industry with popular places like Panera Bread, Starbucks, Walgreens, and even Target, adding take-out sandwiches to the food options they offer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Subway restaurant CEO Suzanna Greco told Bloomberg News, “We want to be sure that we have the best location.  Store count isn’t everything.” They are hoping that even though they will have fewer locations, their service and presentation in each store will be so enhanced that the sales will make up for it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In addition to the appearance of their stores, they are looking to catch up on the tech involvement as well. Competing with McDonald’s mobile app that has 20 million users in the U.S. and Panera who has been using mobile payment systems for years now.
