Donald Trump's Plan to Live in NYC Will Cost Over $1 Million a Day, Secret Service to Cost Taxpayers Over $2 Million a Day - blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As previously reported, the President-elect, along with his wife and son Barron, have opted to stay in New York City instead of the White House. However, it seems that decision will cost the city a pretty penny to protect the soon-to-be first family. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to WGN, the price of external security at the #Trump Tower for Trump and his family will exceed $1 million each day. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Guarding Trump’s $100 million three-story penthouse and the family of the President-elect will be the NYPD’s highest concern, reports state. This means, overtime costs will skyrocket. A few weeks ago, Trump Tower was reportedly guarded by counterterrorism NYPD officials, equipped with the works, helmets, armor, and firearms. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In addition to overtime costs, the city will need to shut down streets as needed. Apparently, last week, due to Trump’s commute to New Jersey, the Lincoln Tunnel was closed at rush hour. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sources say, the family traveled to Florida for Thanksgiving, which required at least 150 Secret Service agents. When Trump gets sworn in on January 20th, that number will jump to more than 920 agents and support personnel in D.C and New York, reports state. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As of right now, the cost to taxpayers for all of that security is over $2 million a day, which will increase with travel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The protection will also extend to Trump’s adult children, as well as his grandchildren.
