According to Time, #Mattel made the changes in response to the ongoing criticism over Barbie's unrealistic proportions and allegations that it promotes an unhealthy body image to young girls. "We are excited to literally be changing the face of the brand – these new dolls represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them – the variety in body type, skin tones and style allows girls to find a doll that speaks to them," said Evelyn Mazzocco, Senior Vice President & Barbie's Global General Manager. "We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty. " The new collection, which is part of the "Barbie Fashionistas" line, also features seven new skin tones, 22 eye colours, 24 hairstyles and a variety of outfits. Time reports that Barbie's new looks will make their official debut at the New York Toy Fair Feb. 13-16, Time reports. Starting today (Jan. 28), the new versions will be sold online, along with the original model, at Barbie's website and are expected to hit shelves later this year.
